KRC Genk have won the opening game of day 8 in the Jupiler League. Genk beat STVV 2 – 4.

KRC Genk gave the leaders of the league their first defeat. In the Staaien stadium an exciting derby ended on a 2 – 4 score.

The strikers score.

Genk kicked off perfectly and went ahead after barely five minutes. Barda put Ogunjimi, selected above Koita, through the defense and Mignolet didn’t stand a chance. Genk kept the pressure on and after a beautiful combination Buffel served Barda the second goal. The Israeli international headed home his first of the season having switched his kit number back to last year’s number 18.
Half an hour into the game Sint Truiden appeared to be knocked out. Buffel increased the score to 3 – 0 after a shot by Barda was deflected. Newcomer Buffel’s second goal in three games.

STVV were at a loss, were unable to cover the space they got and never got into the game. Genk apparently were heading for a monster score.

Sint Truiden with the fighting spirit.

After the break STVV emerged from the locker rooms ready to fight back. Euvrard restored hope for Sint Truiden shortly after the hour and minutes later former Genk player Alex pulled another one back. STVV kept steam rolling on and showed Genk why they started the season as well as they did.

The blues were pushed back and struggled to stay in the game. Vanhaezebrouck took immediate action and first substituted Ogunjimi with Koita. Shortly after he brought on Matoukou instead of Daeseleire. And the substitutions immediately paid off. From one of the sharp corner kicks by Tozser, Koita re-established the two goal difference with a clear cut header. With less than ten minutes to play the game was over.

After it had kicked off already in the first half, the Genk party continued. The umpteenth victory at Staaien finally gave the numerous fans their moment of glory.
