KRC Genk loose 0 - 1 at home to Anderlecht.
In front of a capacity crowd in the Cristal Arena Genk were beat by Anderlecht on Sunday evening.
Both Genk and Anderlecht had European duties last week. For Genk it didn't turn out well after a 2 - 0 defeat in Leverkusen. Anderlecht on the other hand returned from Moscow with the three points . On top of that, Been lost Nadson with an injury and David Hubert had to pull out with abdominal muscle problems. So Hyland and Vanden Borre featured on the team sheet. Up front Been picked the tandem Vossen - Benteke. For Anderlecht Safari kept his place on left back, Odoi returned on right back and Mbokani was in the starting line up.
Messy first half.
To everybody's surprise Been chose Daniel Tözsèr and not Khaleem Hyland to take Nadson's place in the heart of the Genk defense. Vanden Borre and Hyland acted as central midfielders. The hometeam were the first to be dangerous. Benteke met a corner kick by Tözsèr. His header only just went wide. After only fifteen minutes Been had to reshuffle his team once again. Vossen landed badly after a corner kick. At first it looked like he would be able to continue but eventually he had to pull out. Dugary substituded him. On the half hour the game was still locked dead. None of the teams were able to create any danger.
After 33 minutes there was a first spark of hope for the spectators. Tözsèr took a free kick. It deflected of the wall and Proto only just managed to tip the ball against the post. Benteke was unable to score from the rebound. Anderlecht retaliated with two headers. The one by Gillet was parried by Köteles, the other one by Mbokani went over the target. Shortly after, Dugary hooked the ball to his left foot but his attempt went wide. Unfortunately enough for the crowd in the Cristal Arena the spark did not produce a fire and the first half watered down resulting in a goalless intermediate score.
Caught by surprise.
Genk got the first opportunity of the second half. Benteke's chip alone in front of Proto was to weak to worry the Anderlecht keeper. On the opposite side Köteles had to go at full stretch to save a header by Kljestan. The game then turned into a festival of bad passing and taking the wrong decisions. On 74 minutes the visitors then took a flattered lead when Mbokani headed home a corner kick by Biglia from close range. Been brought on Kennedy instead of Vanden Borre in an attempt to turn the tide. That nearly paid off, but Juhasz prevented the goal. Gillet wasted an excellent opportunity when he missed in front of an open goal. Genk went all in but were unable to create the chances to score. Anderlecht furtively grabbed the three points in the Cristal Arena.
