KRC Genk loose 3 - 1 in Lokeren.

15/10/2011 | 19:07

KRC Genk lost 3 - 1 away in Lokeren on Saturday evening. Benteke scored and was sent off before the break.

Goal and red card for Benteke.

Before the game even started coach Mario Been had to face more injury trouble. Pudil had to pull out with a hamstring injury. Durwaels took his place in the starting line up. After his remarkably quick recovery Vossen played up front in a tandem with Benteke. Hyland and Vanden Borre started in midfield and in defense Argentinian Abel Masuero made his debut for Genk.

Genk took a good start. After two minutes De Bruyne was close to scoring the opening goal. His shot sailed over the target. On minute ten Genk went ahead. Corner by De Bruyne and Benteke with the header scoring his first goal of the season. Genk continued to put the pressure on the opponent and Copa excelled on two attempts by Vossen. Gradually Lokeren got into the game and Genk had to lean back. On fourty minutes the equalizer was a fact when De Pauw outsmarted the Genk defense, keeper Köteles included. No more than one minute later Genk were down to ten. A tackle, studs showing, by Benteke was deemed worthy a red card by referee De Bleeckere. Benteke was sent off to an early shower. Genk even got a narrow escape when Harbaoui's shot from the edge of the rectangle only just missed the target.

Third defeat.

Coach Mario Been left Vossen in the lockerroom and brought on Kennedy. Stand their ground or go for a win was the key question for the visitors. Lokeren had possession and pushed Genk back in defense but there was not much danger emanating from it. On the hour Genk had another narrow escape when Köteles fumbled a free kick by De Ceulaer. An attempt from Kennedy was the only danger Lokeren keeper Copa had to deal with. Been then substituted Buffel for Dugary, for Lokeren Patosi came on for goalscorer De Pauw. Their next corner put Lokeren ahead. Defender Gueye headed home the corner kick over keeper Köteles. Barely two minutes later the game was over. Substitute Patosi scored the goal that clinched it for Lokeren.
