As could be expected Genk suffered a defeat against Chelsea. They lost their third Champions League duel 5 - 0.

Trailing early.

KRC Genk started the game in the expected line up. The tandem Vossen/Barda played up front, in the back Pudil and Masuero were found fit to play. Any hope for a favourable result was soon shattered for Genk. After not even fifteen minutes they went 2 - 0 down. A shot from distance from Meireles and a goal from Torres sealed Genk's fate. Before the half hour Torres headed home his second of the evening. And the suffering was not over for Genk when Ivanovic headed home from a free kick shortly before halftime. The numerous Genk fans supported their team all the way but the difference in level and the absence of too many key players were too much.

Better second half.

Damage control, that was Genk's assignment in the second half and so they did. Coach Been brought on Camus instead of Masuero. Hyland went back a line to support Töszèr in central defense. With the game in hands, Chelsea were much more lenient. Only substitute Kalou managed to score. Köteles was up to the few other attempts in the second half. Genk did more with the possession than in the first half but they were unable to create any chances against an almighty and efficient Chelsea. The final score read 5 - 0.
