KRC Genk take on Partizan or Skendija

As reigning Belgian champions KRC Genk line up in the third preliminary round of the UEFA Champions League. Play dates are 26th or 27th of July or 2nd or 3rd of August.

KRC Genk take on the winner of the fixture between Partizan Belgrado and Skendija Tetova of Macedonia. Genk play at home first. The away game ended in a 4 – 0 victory for Partizan. Most likely the Serbs will be KRC Genk’s opponent.

Last year Partizan Belgrado eliminated Anderlecht from the Group stages of the Champions League. In the away game Anderlecht drew 2-2 in Belgrade. The return game in Brussels ended in the same score but Anderlecht were kicked out after a dramatic penalty shoot out.

The winners of this third preliminary round advance to the CL play offs and are therefore secured of playing in the Europa League Group stages. In these play offs qualification for the Champions League group stages is at stake.

The losers can only qualify for the Europa League group stages at the end of August.
