At his own explicit request Thibaut Courtois is transferred to Chelsea. The transfer takes effect at once.
KRC Genk have done their utmost to convince the player and his entourage to stay in Genk but they didn’t succeed. By not showing up for the preparation of today’s game against Lyon this morning, Courtois forced Genk to accept the bid placed by Chelsea. A bid, by far the biggest ever for a Genk player.
Although they closed a top transfer, KRC Genk deeply deplore the course of events.
KRC Genk had already sensed Courtois’ intentions to leave Genk and are already working to find a successor.
