Junya Ito arrived in Genk during the winter transfer window in 2019. We had him on loan from Kashiwa Reysol for a season and a half. It didn't take long for Junya to become a fixture on the right flank. In his first months here, he already played an important part in securing our fourth league title, and last season he was a key figure in the team that won the cup and almost became champions.
22 goals and 33 assists
In the meantime, Ito has grown into a real fulcrum for our team, often a challenge for his opponents, and one of the first names on the teamsheet on the right flank. Scorer of 22 (mostly beautiful) goals and with 33 assists to his credit as well, he has consistently played creator to Paul Onuachu and company. Those numbers have only grown. Due to his strong performance, Ito had already been rewarded with a contract extension, for three seasons in the spring of 2020, one which has now been extended for an extra season.
