Our U19s are close to reaching the second round of the so-called "Domestic Champions Path" of the UEFA Youth League. Two weeks ago, our youngsters won very convincingly, 2-4 at 1. FC Köln. In Germany (and playing in front of more than 4000 spectators) they secured an excellent position ahead of the return leg, set for tonight at 6 p.m. on the reserve pitch, located behind the Cegeka Arena. Sekou Diawara, András Németh and Kelvin John (2) scored the goals in Cologne. They also impressed in their appearances with the U23 team. Unfortunately, though, Sekou will miss a significant amount of time after meniscus surgery.

If we qualify, we will face the winner of the match between Sparta Prague and MTK Budapest. Sparta will try to make up for a 3-1 defeat from the first leg. A duel with the Hungarians therefore seems most likely to us. After that, the play-off round will bring in eight teams who finished second from the groups that are the same as those in the UEFA Champions League. The eight winners of that play-off round, together with the eight group winners, will make it to the Round of 16.

But that's still in the future. Our first task is to finish the job against Köln, and then we'll see. The boys trained one last time last night. Everyone is looking forward to tonight's game with confidence. Goalkeeper Tobe Leysen, Jay-Dee Geusens, Luca Oyen and András Németh are again available from the senior squad.
