KRC Genk and Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement on the permanent transfer of Konstantinos Karetsas. With the transfer of the 18-year-old midfielder, KRC Genk completes the biggest transfer in the club's history.

This record-breaking transfer is more than a sporting and financial milestone. It once again confirms KRC Genk's status as one of Europe's leading talent development clubs, where young players are given every opportunity to fulfil their potential and reach the highest level.

Karetsas came through every stage of the pathway in Genk: from a promising talent in the Academy, to taking his first steps in professional football with Jong Genk, before becoming a key player for the first team and one of Europe's most sought-after young footballers.

With his technical quality, football intelligence and personality, Konstantinos quickly became a fan favourite at the Cegeka Arena. His journey perfectly reflects KRC Genk's DNA: identifying talent, developing it and preparing players for the very highest level.

Konstantinos Karetsas:

"KRC Genk will always have a special place in my heart. This is where I grew up, where I was given the trust to take my first steps in professional football, and where I became the player I am today. I've always felt at home here, and I'd like to thank everyone for that.

The only thing I'm sad about is that I'm leaving without winning a trophy together, but the time felt right to take the next step, and joining BVB is a dream come true. KRC Genk will always be my club and, wherever I play, I'll always be supporting Genk. I'm looking forward to saying goodbye to all the fans in person at the Cegeka Arena. Once a Genkie, always a Genkie."

For Head of Football Dimitri de Condé, the transfer is further proof that KRC Genk's long-term vision continues to deliver.

Dimitri de Condé, Head of Football at KRC Genk:

"Kos is an exceptional talent, but above all he's a young man who wanted to improve every single day. Naturally, we're proud that he has become the biggest transfer in our club's history. Not because breaking records is a goal in itself, but because it proves that our sporting vision works.

KRC Genk will continue to invest in people, talent and development. Seeing a player progress through our own Academy and make the move to a European powerhouse like Borussia Dortmund is yet another confirmation of that vision. Of course, we're disappointed that we weren't able to win a trophy together. It would have been the perfect ending to both his story and ours. Everyone at KRC Genk wishes Kos every success for the future. He will always be welcome here."

The transfer of Konstantinos Karetsas marks another important chapter in the history of KRC Genk. The club remains committed to creating an environment where young players can dream, develop, compete for trophies and ultimately take the next step to the European elite. It is an ambition KRC Genk has consistently delivered on for many years and will continue to pursue in the years ahead.
