Lucca Brughmans is taking a major step forward in his young career. The 18-year-old goalkeeper will join Liverpool FC from KRC Genk at the end of this season. Liverpool FC also have the option to bring him to Anfield as early as January, although that option is unlikely to be exercised.
Brughmans learned his trade at the Genk academy and gradually developed into the impressive goalkeeper he is today. At the KRC Genk Academy, he has grown into a modern goalkeeper who combines his height and impressive reach with superb reflexes, composure on the ball and remarkable leadership for his age.
His development has not gone unnoticed internationally. Liverpool FC have been monitoring Brughmans for some time and regard him as a goalkeeper with exceptional potential.
For Lucca, the move to Liverpool is a dream come true. It is also a source of great pride for KRC Genk. Brughmans’ transfer once again underlines the strength of the club’s youth development programme. Identifying talent, developing young players and guiding them towards the highest level remain key pillars of the club’s philosophy. Brughmans is the latest goalkeeper to make the step to the European elite after developing at the KRC Genk Talent Academy.
Genk goalkeeping academy
Lucca is a young goalkeeper with exceptional potential. He has made tremendous progress in recent years at the KRC Genk Academy and Jong Genk. The fact that a club of Liverpool’s stature has now chosen to invest in his future is a great compliment to Lucca himself, as well as to everyone at our Talent Academy who works tirelessly every day to develop young players.
Staying in blue and white
For the time being, Brughmans will remain with KRC Genk. Liverpool also have the option to bring him to England as early as January, although that scenario is considered unlikely.
“This is a very special moment for me,” says Lucca Brughmans. “Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world. As a young goalkeeper, you dream of getting an opportunity like this one day. At the same time, I am incredibly grateful to KRC Genk. This club has helped shape me, given me opportunities and made me better every day. I will remain fully focused on Genk this season and want to give everything I have for the club.”
KRC Genk would like to congratulate Lucca on this dream move and looks forward to seeing him continue his development in blue and white this season.
Congratulations, Lucca!
