Carlos Cuesta (23) has extended his contract with KRC Genk through 2026. The Colombian defender made the switch from Atletico Nacional in his native league to Genk in 2019 and has already played 114 times for the Genk first team. Over the past three and a half seasons, Cuesta has been an indispensable cog in the heart of Genk's defence and one of the absolute leaders of Wouter Vrancken's team. In 2021 he also made his debut for the Colombian national team. His performance and personality on and off the pitch make him an ambassador for all South Americans.

In the Jupiler Pro League, the Genk vice-captain is playing at a very high level this season, which often makes the Genk goal impregnable. His good performance has thus earned him an extended stay at the Cegeka Arena.

“At his young age, Carlos has emerged as one of the absolute pillars of the team. He is a modern defender who combines power and speed with good ability on the ball and an impressive presence. We are proud to be able to connect him to our club for a longer period of time,” says head of football Dimitri de Condé.
