Of all 32 teams who participated in the Champions League on matchday two, KRC Genk were the youngest by far. The 11 players in the starting line-up were 22.8 years old on average. RB Salzburg (23.7) and sister side RB Leipzig (23.8) completed the top 3. As a comparison: Club Brugge lined up a team of 25.8 years old on average against Real Madrid.  Ajax won in Valencia with a starting line-up of 24.6 year. Furthermore, those on the bench for Genk were fledglings too: 22.4. Only in Benfica the bench sitters were younger. Again, this goes to show that Genk resolutely choose young quality players.
