Japan remains on course for the World Cup, thanks in part to another goal from Junya Ito. The countries with other Genk internationals also have turned in some good performances, save Colombia, who could miss out on a place in Qatar.

Three in a row for Ito

Junya Ito also scored another goal for Japan, this time against China (2-0), following on from mid-November, when he was twice a matchwinner. Then, Japan won two crucial away matches (Vietnam and Oman), each by the score of 0-1. Junya now has eight international goals in 30 matches, but six of those goals have come in his last nine international matches. Japan is currently second in Group B of the AFC World Cup qualifiers, a place that entitles them to a place in Qatar; on Tuesday they will play against group leader Saudi Arabia.

Preciado stands strong against Brazil

Angelo Preciado played 65 minutes for Ecuador against Brazil, who have already sealed their qualification. Still, the draw (1-1) is another good result for Ecuador, who for the time being are leaving their opposition behind, as they sit comfortably third, behind Brazil and Argentina. Preciado and his teammates are five points ahead of the fifth-placed side, Uruguay.
