Luc Nilis has signed a full-time contract with KRC Genk. A former top striker at FC Winterslag, PSV and Aston Villa, among others, will teach the young attackers of the Genk youth academy the tricks of the trade and point the way towards the goal. Nilis has signed a permanent contract.

Luc Nilis is known as one of the best strikers our country has known. Nilis had a great career at FC Winterslag, RSC Anderlecht and PSV. In the Netherlands he was twice the winner of the Golden Boot. The Hasselt-born forward also played 56 times for the national team in which he managed to find the goal 10 times. After a successful period in Eindhoven, he crossed the pond towards Aston Villa. In his third game, however, disaster struck when he suffered a broken leg, ending his career in one fell swoop. Nilis was known for his soft touch and ambidexterity; in his professional career he managed to score 254 times for his clubs.

At KRC Genk, Nilis, as an attacking striker coach, will be able to transfer his experience to the young attacking talents who are a part of Genk's youth setup. The former top striker will start working with the rough diamonds of the U-15 side. As a striking coach, he will logically also work closely with the head coaches of each age categories.

We are very proud to be able to employ Luc full-time in our youth work. In his football career, he was a genius on the pitch. We are convinced that he will teach our young talents much in terms of their vision, technique and running, showing them the tricks of the trade and launching them towards a great career,” says KRC Genk Head of Football, Dimitri de Condé.

Luc Nilis adds: “KRC Genk's youth academy enjoys worldwide fame. Many absolute world class players have laid the foundations for their glorious careers here. The proof was in evidence yesterday at the Golden Shoe awards gala. The entire top three of the best Belgians abroad were trained at our Academy. I hope to pass on my experience to the young players who are here today and take them to the next level.”

Nilis has signed an indefinite contract at the Cegeka Arena.
