Jong Genk has added, in the form of Christian Akpan, an extra option in their battle for survival. Akpan has signed a three-year contract with an option for two additional seasons.

The Genk scouts had Akpan on their radar for a while, as did several other European clubs. In the past two weeks he has been training with Jong Genk where he immediately showed flashes of his class.

The young Nigerian was trained in the Ivory Coast at the Académie MimoSifcom, the training centre of ASEC Mimosas. This is also the same academy where club legend Didier Zokora and Aziz Ouattara also took their first steps in football. Akpan is fast, two-footed and has a lot of technical quality. Thanks to these qualities, he can play in different positions in the centre of the pitch, both in defence and in midfield.

Everyone in the Genk youth system is convinced of his talent and enormous potential. Under the tutelage of Hans Somers and his technical staff, this brand new Genkie will have time in the team of Jong Genk to develop further in the coming years.
