Kongolo, who arrived at the KRC Genk Talent Academy 10 years ago, already manifested himself as one of the absolute star players at Jong Genk in the Challenger Pro League last season, at the age of 17. In the Champions' Play-offs, he even made his first-team debut on the Union pitch where he effortlessly held his own. This season, Thorsten Fink included him permanently in the A-core. In the home win against Club Brugge, he again held his own effortlessly against his direct opponent, Gustaf Nilsson.
Kongolo is a regular with the Belgian U19. As such, he is considered one of the greatest defensive talents of his generation in our country. Despite interest from the Bundesliga, the sympathetic defender native opted for an extended stay in Genk.
Dimitri de Condé, Head of Football at KRC Genk, is extremely pleased with the contract extension:
"Josue is an extraordinary talent with enormous potential. His choice to stay with us confirms not only his confidence in the club, but also our reputation as an ideal environment for young players to develop."
The young defender himself is looking forward to the coming years at KRC Genk:
"I feel at home here and am convinced that this is the best place to develop myself further. The club's facilities, staff and vision match my ambitions perfectly."
