KRC Genk decided on Monday to terminate the cooperation with head coach Thorsten Fink. His regular assistants Sebastian Hahn and Goran Kontic will also be leaving the club.
KRC Genk is an ambitious club and had set clear objectives at the start of the season. The club’s management believes that, due to the inconsistent results and irregular level of performance in recent times, the team is no longer on the right path towards success.
KRC Genk would like to explicitly express its appreciation to Thorsten Fink for the work he has delivered. He took charge during a difficult period for the club and succeeded, in a short space of time during his first season, in bringing a new dynamic and fresh energy. This was felt within the playing squad, throughout the club, and more broadly across the stands.
KRC Genk will now begin the search for a new head coach who is best placed to achieve the club’s sporting objectives. Pending this appointment, assistants Domenico Olivieri and Michel Ribeiro will take interim charge of the first team. Devon Maes, Head of Health and Performance, will temporarily assume responsibility for the physical readiness of the squad.
The entire Genk family thanks Thorsten Fink, Sebastian Hahn and Goran Kontic for their commitment and wishes them every success in the future.
