Eddy Vanhemel is returning to his roots. From next season, the former senior coordinator and trainer of the Genk U17 at the Jos Vaessen Talent Academy will hold the position of Head of Football and Coach Development. From that position, he will form an important bridge between the Genk academy and the first team.

In recent years, Vanhemel was employed by SK Lommel and OH Leuven, among others, where he was even interim coach of the first team for a while after the dismissal of Marc Brys. From his new position, he will form a tandem with Technical Director of the Genk academy Koen Daerden. Whereas Daerden will focus on the succession and development of current and future youth players, Vanhemel, as Head of Football and Coach Development, will have to watch over the football principles of our club. From the academy to the first team. "Specifically, we expect Eddy to develop even deeper our football DNA with attractive and attacking football we stand for as KRC Genk. Moreover, he will guide the many trainers at our disposal even better in putting those principles into practice. As a teacher of the Uefa A course at Voetbal Vlaanderen, he is a reference in the Belgian football world. In short, he is the ideal man to help shape the future of KRC Genk", says Training Director Roland Breugelmans.
