Heymans made his debut in the Belgian ProL eague in 2016 at just 17 years old with KV Westerlo. He went on to play for Waasland-Beveren and Lommel SK before making the move to Italian Serie A side Venezia. After his adventure in Italy, the midfielder from the Kempen region joined Charleroi, where he spent the last 3.5 seasons and developed into one of the club’s key players.

Last season, Heymans featured in 40 matches for Charleroi, scoring 15 goals and providing 3 assists — making the 2024-2025 campaign the most productive of his career so far.

To date, Heymans has played 207 matches in Belgian professional football. There’s no doubt the newest Genkie brings a wealth of experience to Thorsten Fink’s squad.

“Daan is a true winner,” said Head of Football Dimitri de Condé. “He has the mentality it takes to succeed in professional football. He brings personality and leadership to the team. And last season, he once again showed his knack for scoring goals.”

For Heymans, the move to KRC Genk comes at just the right time.

“Every footballer dreams of playing in front of packed stadiums and showcasing themselves in Europe. With this transfer, I’m making both dreams come true,” Heymans said. “I just turned 26 and have worked hard to earn this step to a top club like KRC Genk. My best years are ahead of me, and I’m really looking forward to fighting for trophies with this talented group.”

Heymans will wear shirt number 38 and has signed a four-year contract at the Cegeka Arena, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2029. He’ll join the rest of the squad for the start of pre-season training on Friday.
