On Monday, the KRC Genk squad visited the construction site of the H.Essers Training Center. They were given a tour by main contractor Houben NV and PCP Architects. Bryan Heynen and his teammates got a first look at what awaits them at the end of 2026. If everything goes according to plan, construction will be fully completed in the autumn of 2026, and the first team will move into their new home base by the end of that year.
The works at the H.Essers Training Center, located in the shadow of the Cegeka Arena, are progressing smoothly and right on schedule. The main structure is now almost completely sealed against wind and water, with the remaining structural works to be finalized this month. The exterior joinery and roofing will also be completed before the end of the year.
Inside, installation of the technical systems is in full swing, and the first finishing works have already started, including screeding, plastering, and drywall installation.
There’s also plenty of activity around the site. Preparatory work for the new training pitches is ongoing, while the access roads and fencing around the complex are expected to be completed by mid-November. The actual construction of the pitches will begin in December, with seeding planned for April.
By the end of 2026, KRC Genk will have the most modern and high-performance training complex in the country. The new building, covering more than 6,000 m², will feature three training pitches (two of them hybrid and heated), an indoor hall, a swimming pool with an adjustable floor, spacious dressing rooms, and modern offices and meeting spaces.
