Ibrahima Sory Bangoura has extended his stay at KRC Genk. The 22-year-old Guinean midfielder has signed a new contract until the summer of 2030. His previous deal was due to expire in 2028. The extension underlines the club’s faith in a player who worked his way through Jong Genk to the first team, where he has continued to develop.

Bangoura arrived in Genk in the summer of 2022, joining Jong Genk from Guinea’s Johnson Académie Sport. The Challenger Pro League gave him the opportunity to test himself against experienced professionals, providing an invaluable grounding. He developed into one of Jong Genk’s key players and made an increasingly strong case for a place in the first-team squad.

His efforts were rewarded in January 2024 with a permanent move to the first team. A few months later, he made his competitive debut away at Club Brugge during the Champions’ Play-offs. Since then, Bangoura has continued to progress, gaining experience on the European stage along the way.

Bangoura’s impressive physical attributes and ability to intercept the ball make him an exciting prospect as a defensive midfielder. Never one to shy away from the hard work, Ibrahima plays an important role in maintaining the team’s balance through his defensive contribution.

With this new deal running until 2030, both club and player have expressed their confidence in continuing to grow together. KRC Genk firmly believes in the Guinean midfielder’s ability and sees plenty of scope for him to fulfil his potential.

“When I came to Genk, my goal was to play for the first team one day. I worked hard at Jong Genk to earn that opportunity. I’ve already learned a lot here and grown as a footballer, but I know I can improve further. I feel the club’s trust in me, and I want to repay that on the pitch. I’m delighted to commit my future to KRC Genk,” said Bangoura.
