They stood behind the team as one united set of Genkies for the entire season, in good times and bad. And as usual, the supporters would also choose their player of the season for the 2022-2023 season. And, in a neck-and-neck race, they chose Patrik Hrošovský as their player of the season.

Throughout the year he has been a beacon of calm and confidence in midfield. In the shadow of assist king Trésor and goal machine Painstil, it was Patje who powered the team’s proverbial engine. He is often undervalued by those away from the team, but our Genkies are experts. They know plenty about pure footballing quality. This is how Hrošovský managed to win a place in the hearts of the supporters; he is the most appreciated player of the season as we head into the summer break.

“Until the last moment, 5 players still had a chance at first place,” Rudi Claessens explains on behalf of the OSV. "It says something about the great collective effort we saw last season."

Winner Hrošovský was joined on the podium by newly minted Red Devil Mike Trésor and Joske Paintsil. Captain Bryan Heynen was just a few votes further back, while our eternal warrior at right back, Daniel Muñoz, rounded out the top 5.

The voting went as follows: all 28 supporters clubs were asked to pass on their top 3 players of the season. A first-place vote was awarded five points, second place three and third received one point; those points counted for 50% of the vote.

To give as many supporters as possible the opportunity to vote for their favourite player of the past season, the remaining half of the votes were divided into two rounds, each representing 25% of the vote. All members of the OSV Facebook group would vote for their favourite player via a poll. Again, the top 3 there were awarded 5, 3 and 1 point. Finally, every supporter could vote for his or her man of the match after every game for a whole season. All of those votes were also added up, with the top three also receiving 5, 3 and 1 points respectively.
