After the 2–1 home win against Swedish side Malmö FF, we wrapped up the League Phase of the UEFA Europa League in an impressive ninth place out of 36 teams. On Thursday evening, immediately after the match, it was already clear that we would face either Norway’s SK Brann or Croatia’s Dinamo Zagreb in the Knockout Phase.
On Friday afternoon, during the draw in Nyon, Switzerland, Dinamo Zagreb were pulled out of the pot. The Croatians qualified for the Knockout Phase by finishing 23rd out of 24 teams. In the League Phase, they won three of their eight matches, lost four and drew one, collecting a total of ten points.
While Zagreb scraped through to the Knockout Phase, they are performing much better domestically. In Croatia’s top division, the HNL, Dinamo sit top of the table after 19 matchdays with 41 points, four more than rivals Hajduk Split.
We travel to Croatia on 19 February. One week later, on 26 February, we host the return leg at home, with a place in the Round of 16 at stake.
