Tobe Leysen is back at KRC Genk. The 24-year-old goalkeeper joins from OH Leuven and has signed a five-year contract at the Cegeka Arena, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2031.
In Leysen, the Blue and Whites welcome a familiar face back to Genk. The goalkeeper came through the ranks of the KRC Genk Academy before making the move to OH Leuven in the summer of 2023. There, he established himself as a regular starter and has since made more than 100 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League.
Modern goalkeeper
Leysen is a well-rounded, modern goalkeeper with sharp reflexes, a commanding presence in the penalty area and strong ability with the ball at his feet. He dominates his box, is confident when dealing with crosses and is comfortable playing out from the back. Alongside his qualities on the pitch, Leysen also brings plenty of personality to the squad.
One of our own
For KRC Genk, Leysen is more than just a new goalkeeper. As a product of our own academy, he knows the club, the environment and what is expected here. Tobe is Genkie through and through and knows exactly what it means to wear the KRC Genk badge.
During his time at OH Leuven, Leysen gained valuable first-team experience and continued to mature as a goalkeeper. He now brings that experience back to Genk, where he will add further competition between the posts.
“Blue blood always finds its way home,” says Tobe Leysen. “This is the club where I grew up as a player. I’ve always dreamed of standing between the posts here at the Cegeka Arena. Coming back now brings that dream another step closer.”
Leysen is looking forward to starting a new chapter in Blue and White. “I’m coming home with more experience and more hunger than ever. I’m ready to play for KRC Genk again.”
Welcome home, Tobe.
